RENO, Nev. – No. 24 Arizona Volleyball was beaten by Pacific, 3-1, to start off the Wolf Pack Invitational in Reno, Nev. with set scores 25-21, 22-25, 25-23, 25-12.
Arizona falls to 5-2 on the season while Pacific improves to 5-1.
UA dropped the first set to Pacific 25-21 to start things off. It marked the first match in which Arizona had not won the opening set. After the score was tied at 11 at, Pacific went on a 5-0 run and led comfortably the rest of the set.
In set two, the Wildcats responded, topping the Tigers 25-22 to head into the break with the match knotted up at 1-1. Arizona took a commanding 17-12 advantage and stayed ahead the rest of the way.
After intermission, Pacific went up in the match two sets to one after besting Arizona, 25-23. The Tigers took advantage of a few UA errors to pull ahead early and never relinquished the lead. For the set, the Wildcats hit just .286 but Pacific’s .364 was too much to overcome.
In the fourth set, Arizona was thoroughly beaten 25-12 as Pacific led for most of the way, pouring it on towards the end.
In terms of match totals, Arizona received 17 kills and 13 digs from Tiffany Owens, but little else. Whitney Dosty recorded 11 errors while hitting -.057. Paige Weber had 33 assists and 10 digs. As a team, UA hit just .129 and committed 24 errors.
Tonight, Arizona will face host Nevada as it tries to rebound from a deflating loss.
