Hey Gymcat Fans!
Welcome back to a new season of Arizona Gymnastics. We have four new freshmen on the team this year to look out for: Aubree, Mykle, Ellen, and Molly. Each one of these girls is extremely talented and a wonderful addition to our team. In fact, two of our freshman: Aubree and Molly competed all-around at Arkansas in our first meet of the season (not too shabby)!
Our team has been plagued with several injuries during our pre-season, but fortunately some girls such as Katie Matusik should be back in competition mode by the later part of season. Fortunately, the injuries have in no way affected the morale of the team. Those who are unable to practice and compete have been extremely supportive of the girls that are healthy and are our number one cheerleaders in the gym. It's a wonderful atmosphere to be in and it makes practicing much easier.
We are starting up a new semester in school and I expect everyone to do well in their classes even with our busy travel schedule. I have full confidence that our young team will continue to improve on the competition floor as the season progresses. In all of my years on the University of Arizona Gymnastics team I have never seen a team with such passion and dedication to the sport.
We had some bright spots in Arkansas, such as Britnie's stellar beam routine. She was named Pac-10 special-performance of the week! Way to go Brit. However, we did have to count several falls which we will be working on eliminating in this weekend's competition. I look forward to us growing as a team and am excited for all of the competition to come.
We travel to Stanford this weekend and will be competing Sunday afternoon. Be sure to check out the results! Our first home meet is January 29, 2010. Hope to see you all there. Thanks for all of your support Gymcat fans. J
