The No. 20 Arizona gymnastics team traveled to Chicago, Ill. this weekend to compete against unranked Illinois-Chicago.? The Cats pulled through with their fourth victory of the season. The final team score of 194.75 was also a season high for the Wildcats, while the Flames earned a 192.975?team total.? The Cats are now 4-2 overall and 1-2 in the Pac-10.

The Wildcats began the evening on bars, making a strong opening with senior Karin Wurm earning a 9.900 to take first place, and tie her personal best. Junior Briana Bergeson also came in third place with a 9.775. The final team score was a 48.750.

On the vault, the teamˇ?s second event of the night, the team scored a solid 49.025. Arizonaˇ?s Miranda Russell led the way scoring a 9.850.? Junior Bree Workman and senior Karin Wurm followed with second and third place with scores of 9.825 and 9.800 respectively.

The Cats continued their momentum on the floor exercise, scoring a 48.775 team total.??Wurm tied for first place with an Illinois-Chicago gymnast, both scoring a 9.850.?

ˇ?We really had a great first three events,ˇ± said head coach Bill Ryden.

The team finished the night on beam, having a few more struggles, scoring a 48.200.? Nevertheless, senior Danielle Hicks managed to score a solid 9.825 awarding her first place,?while Wurm came in at second with a 9.775.

ˇ?In our away meets weˇ?ve never been able to get our beam routines on track. Weˇ?ve got a lot of improving to do when we finish the night on beam.ˇ±

In the all-around, Wurm took first for the second meet in a row, scoring a 39.325?while sophomore Miranda Russell took third with a 38.375.

ˇ?Weˇ?re happy with the results, but we still want to perform better,ˇ± said Ryden.

ˇ?Weˇ?re getting better each week but we keep having falls.ˇ±

The Arizona gymnastics team has its next meet against rival ASU in Tempe, Ariz. on Friday, February 15th.
