TUCSON--The Arizona women's soccer team fell 5-1 to The Ohio State University, Sunday afternoon in the final match of the Cats Classic Presented by Loews Ventana Canyon Resort at Murphey Field at Mulcahy Stadium.
Freshman Jensen Skinner's goal from her corner kick in the 74th minute kept the Wildcats from earning their second shutout loss on the season. Fellow freshman Jazmin Ponce led Arizona (2-4-2) with four shot attempts, and took one of the three on-goal attempts.
Ohio State (6-2-1) doubled Arizona on shots 16-8, taking a total of eleven in the second half of the match. Five of junior Ashley Jett's saves came in the second half.
"For today's game, we came out, and were not ready to face a team like Ohio State, and the results are indicative of that," Said head coach Lisa Oyen. "We didn't play well individually and collectively, and we need to do that in order to take on top programs like OSU. Like our other losses, this loss is a learning experience for us, and I know that we'll bounce back. That's just the kind of team we are. We weren't pointing fingers in the locker room after the game and feeling sad for ourselves, we were trying to find solutions, and that is exactly what I want to see. The players have to work to be better in order to be the team that they want to be, and I know they can do it."
Up next, the Wildcats head out to Los Angeles on Friday, September 24 to face Loyola Marymount at 4pm, and on Sunday Arizona will return home to host the University of Utah at 7pm at Mulcahy Stadium.
