FULLERTON, Calif. ?- The top-ranked Arizona softball team shut out No. 8 Oklahoma on Saturday at the Kia Klassic, 4-0.
Junior pitcher Alicia Hollowell got her 14th win of the season, allowing no runs on four hits and striking out six to put her season K total at 205.
The Wildcats did all their scoring in the top of the first inning. Caitlin Lowe led off with a bunt single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Autumn Champion. Kristie Fox walked, and senior Jackie Coburn hit a three-run homer to left center off Sooners pitcher Kami Keiter, her fourth knock of the year. Shelly Schultz singled with one out and senior Jen Martinez hit a double to left center, scoring Shultz from first to give the Cats a four-run lead.
Lowe went 3-for-4 in the game, improving her team-leading season batting average to .536. Lowe is 45-for-84 on the year and has scored a team-leading 26 runs for the Cats.
Schultz, who has struggled offensively this year, had a strong game for Arizona, going 3-for-5 with three singles and a run. She also had a putout and three assists.
Arizona will continue playing at the Kia Klassic on Sunday at 8:30 a.m. PST against either No. 14 Washington or No. 21 Fresno State.
