Women's tennis continues with strong second day

LOS ANGELES, Calif.--The Arizona women's tennis team continued with a strong second day at the 2009 Matador Intercollegiate Invitational Saturday.

For singles, in the quarterfinal round, sophomore Natasha Marks defeated UC Santa Barbara's Michelle Murphy 6-4, 6-0, and in the semifinals, Marks took down CSU Stanislaus' Verena Preikschas 7-5, 7-5.

Junior Jane Huh won her first match of the day against CSU Fullerton's De la Cruz 6-4, 6-4, and lost her second match 2-6, 6-2, 6-2 to Nevada's Lombard. Sophomore Debora Castany lost her first match 6-4, 6-4 to Boise State's Marlena Pietzuch, and won her second match of the day over Air Force's Hannah Dake 6-4, 6-2.

In doubles play, Marks and Huh defeated Air Forces' Sarah Cassman and Hannah Dake 8-1.

"Day two went very well," said assistant coach Ryan Stotland, "Everybody learned and improved, and I'm happy with their performances. I'm very excited for the last day of play."

The Matador Intercollegiate Invitational wraps Sunday.
