The No. 24 Arizona men’s tennis team will be heading to College Station, Texas, for the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament, May 8-9. ESPNEWS made the announcement at 2:30 p.m. PDT this afternoon.
The Wildcats (17-5, 2-4 Pac-10) will take on the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders (14-8) in the first round. If the Wildcats advance, they will face either Binghamton (17-4) or host Texas A&M (15-8).
“This is a huge accomplishment for this team,” head coach Tad Berkowitz said. “This gives our guys some confidence since we have not made the tournament the last couple seasons. The bar has been raised. For now we are going to enjoy the win, but we have to get back to business tomorrow.”
- This will be the second meeting all-time against Texas A&M-CC. The Wildcats defeated the Islanders, 6-1, last season.
- Six of the seven Pac-10 schools made the NCAA Tournament: Arizona, USC, Stanford, UCLA, California and Washington.
- Nine of Arizona's 22 opponents this season made the tournament. In addition to five Pac-10 teams, Florida, South Florida, Texas Tech and Northwestern each made the NCAA Tournament field.
