<P><FONT size=2><STRONG>TUCSON, Ariz. - </STRONG>Sophomore right-hander <A class=ARTICLELINK href="/ViewArticle.dbml?ATCLID=222520"><A class=ARTICLELINK href="/ViewArticle.dbml?ATCLID=222520">Preston Guilmet</A></A> has been named a <EM>Collegiate Baseball/</EM>Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week after firing a one-hitter over seven innings against Liberty last Friday. His current selection marks a school-record third time this season he has been recognized by the publication.</FONT></P> <P><FONT size=2>Guilmet (9-1), who is on the watch lists for both the Brooks Wallace Award and the Roger Clemens Award and is one of 50 national semifinalists for the Golden Spikes Award, held the Flames hitless for 5 2/3 innings last week before finally allowing a single with two outs in the sixth. He did not give up another hit while holding Liberty scoreless for seven innings to lower his Pac-10-leading ERA to 1.68 for the season. He did not issue a walk in his team-leading ninth win of the year and finished with six strikeouts to raise his season total to 110 in 102 innings pitched.</FONT></P> <P><FONT size=2>Guilmet has previously recieved weekly accolaids from <EM>Collegiate Baseball </EM>after flirting with another no-hitter in UA's season-opener against Gonzaga on Feb. 2 and again after striking out a career-high 15 batters in a complete game win over Stanford on April 13. His three selections this season mark not only a first for a single year, but it is also the most national weekly awards for any Arizona player in a career. Former Wildcat Jason Hendricks is the only other UA player to have been recognized multiple times when he was named to the honor twice during the 1998 season.</FONT></P> <P><FONT size=2>Guilmet and his teammates will return to action on Saturday when they open a three-game Pac-10 series against USC at Jerry Kindall Field at Frank Sancet Stadium. Guilmet is the scheduled starter for Arizona in the 7 p.m. series-opener.</FONT></P>
