Seattle, Wash.- The Arizona Women's gymnastics team headed to Seattle, Wash today to compete in the Pac-10 championships.
The Wildcats finished strong, coming in fourth place with a 195.725. Stanford took first place with a 197.000, Oregon State second with a 196.550 and UCLA third with a 196.200. Following the fourth-place Wildcats were the California Golden Bears with a 193.400, Washington at sixth with a 193.375, and finally ASU with a 191.925.
"We hit 24 for 24 routines, and we think it will move up in the rankings." said head coach Bill Ryden. "We had a very good meet, and we are really happy with our performance".
On the vault, senior Karin Wurm took third place with a 9.850. Sophomore Miranda Russell followed at 17th and the team total was a 48.875.
Bars was also a hit with Wurm as she notched a 9.900 giving her third place once again. Junior Alexis Greene followed at 13th and Junior Briana Bergeson at 18th with 9.825 and a 9.800 respectively. Collectively, the team notched a 49.000.
On the beam, junior Briana Bergeson and senior Danielle Hicks lead the Cats in eighth place, both with a 9.850. Wurm came in 15th with a 9.825 while Russell finished 16th with a solid 9.800. The team total was a 49.000.
Finishing on floor, junior Sarah Specht lead the way in 10th place with a 9.825, as the team total was a 48.850.
Wurm took fifth place in the all-around with a 39.275 while Russell took eighth with a 39.050 and Greene ninth with a 39.050.
" We fought really hard, and it was a really positive experience. If we compete like this at regionals we will do well" said Ryden."
The Gymcats will continue on to compete in the regional competition, in hopes of qualifying for the NCAA nationals.
