TUCSON, Ariz. – Down 11-7 in the deciding fifth set against Louisville on Friday night, No. 24 Arizona volleyball rallied back to win the set and match in thrilling fashion in McKale Center. Set scores were: 25-22, 21-25, 25-16, 23-25, 17-15.
Whitney Dosty was the star for Arizona tonight, totaling 28 kills on 56 swings, good for a hitting percentage of .339. Dosty also had three digs, three block assists, one ace and an assist. Paige Weber posted 54 assists through the five sets.
After winning set three relatively easy, UA looked to be in the driver’s seat. But Louisville would not budge, as they forced the Cats into hitting just .162 in set four while Lola Arslanbekova rallied her team.
Over the match, Arslanbekova had 26 kills as Louisville forced UA into a deciding fifth set. There, the Cardinals looked like the ranked team as they stormed out to a 7-3 lead and ultimately 11-7. From there, the Wildcats strung together four points to go up 15-14 and hung on to win set five 17-15.
Arizona, with the win, improves to 4-1 on the year while Louisville falls to 3-2.
A few other posting significant numbers for UA tonight included Cursty Jackson with 11 kills and three blocks and Tiffany Owens with 11 kills and 15 digs. It was Owens’ second double-double on the year.
Tomorrow, Arizona will face CSU Bakersfield in the final match of the Wildcat Classic. First serve tomorrow begins at 1 p.m. MST.
