STARKVILLE, Miss. -- Four Arizona Wildcats were selected to the NFCA Division I All-West Region team Thursday.

UA senior third baseman Jenae Leles, junior catcher Stacie Chambers, and sophomores Brittany Lastrapes and Lauren Schutzler, both outfielders, were named to the team and are now eligible for All-American status.

A day earlier, all four were honored by the Pac-10, with Leles, Chambers and Lastrapes earning first-team honors and Schutzler an honorable mention citation.

The National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I All-Region teams, honoring student-athletes from 10 NFCA regions. The four Wilcats were among a total of 264 players from 121 different institutions receiving regional homors.

This year the process changed in the naming of just one team per region (first team), although the same number of players as the previous year's first and second teams combined. The change gives the regional representatives more leeway in presenting candidates for All-America selection.

Additionally, Arizona and four other Pac-10 teams now are considered in the West Region for NFCA playing honors as opposed to all previous years of Division I in the Pacific Region. Oregon, Oregon State and Washington remained in the Pacific Region for the NFCA honor. Pac-10 schools remain in the Pacific Region in terms of NCAA Tournament selection processes.

The all-region teams were chosen by NFCA member coaches from each region, and all the honorees will now be eligible for selection to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-America first, second or third teams. In addition, conference pitchers and players of the year not selected to the regional teams were added for All-America consideration.

Top-ranked Florida, which enters this week's regional tournament as the nation?s No. 1 overall seed, placed all six of its nominees (maximum number allowed) on the Southeast Region team. The Gators were led by pitcher Stacey Nelson, who received the top number of votes at the pitcher position in the Southeast.

The NFCA Division I All-American teams will be announced at 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 27.
