Pittsburg, Pa. ?- The University of Arizona women’s soccer team (5-1-0, 0-0-0) registered its fifth win of the season with a 4-1 victory over Duquesne University (2-4-0, 0-0-0).

The Wildcats opened the game scoring at 1:10 as senior forward Kamaya Damwijk headed in a ball from freshman defender Kaity Heath on a corner kick. Duquesne’s Katie Schwager scored the Dukes’ lone goal from Audra Mathews at 27:20 in the first half. Arizona set up for a penalty kick in the 28th minute, but Duquesne goalkeeper Virginia Bondi made the save to leave the game at a 1-1 tie. Freshman Sally Thurner came into the game and gave the Wildcats the lead with a goal off assists by junior Mallory Miller and sophomore Erin Bevacqua.

The game remained 2-1 until the 55th minute when Duquesne allowed an own goal to give Arizona a 3-1 lead. The Wildcats’ final goal of the afternoon came off another corner kick as Damwijk scored her second goal of the night and fourth of the season with assists going to freshman Claire Bodiya and Miller. Freshman goalkeeper McCall Smith had five saves on the night. Smith has allowed three goals in six games behind the Wildcat defense.

Head Coach Dan Tobias was pleased with the way the Wildcats rebounded after Friday night’s 2-0 loss to West Virginia.

“We were disappointed after Friday’s loss,” Tobias said. “Today we were able to finish our chances off of dead balls and we were pleased with the outcome. It was a tough road trip for us. We played two very physically strong teams. It was good for us to play in these games.”

Arizona will return home to play Northern Arizona on Friday, Sept. 17 at 7 p.m. at Murphey Stadium.
