Arizona Swimming Completes Day Two of the Texas Invitational

AUSTIN, Texas - The University of Arizona men's and women's swimming teams completed the second day of swimming at the Texas Invitational today. The event is taking place over three days with the third and final day of competition beginning tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. The Invitational is being held at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center on the University of Texas campus.

The Wildcat women made a NCAA automatic qualifying time in the 200y medley relay tonight with the time of 1:39.97. The relay team was made up of junior All-American Beth Botsford, sophomore Jessica Wagner, and senior All-Americans Amy Bouta and Jenny Vanker.

Individually for the women last year's NCAA champion in the 200y free, Sarah Tolar, made the "A" cut for this year's 200y free touching the wall at 1:47.27. Botsford made another qualifying time, this time in the 100y back (2:53.32). In the 100y breast Wagner made a qualifying time with 1:00.65.

The Arizona men's 200y medley relay team swam to a NCAA consideration time of 1:28.26. The team consisted of All-American senior Kristopher Souther, sophomore Greg Owen, All-American senior Roland Schoeman and fellow All-American, sophomore Eric la Fleur.

On the men's side of the individual events sophomore All-American Juan Veloz made a consideration time in the preliminaries of the 400 IM when he touched the wall at 3:51.26. Junior redshirt James Thornton also made a consideration time. Thornton did so in the 200y free with the time of 1:38.53.
