Pac-10 Commissioner Tom Hansen announced Monday that freshman pitcher Alicia Hollowell has been named Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week for April 21-27. Hollowell ended the weekend with a 3-0 record and 1.83 ERA.
Hollowell pitched 23 innings and struck out 30 batters. Against No. 20 Oregon on Friday, Hollowell struck out nine batters and gave up two hits. Hollowell pitched 11 innings and struck out 12 batters against Oregon State on Sunday for her 10th double-digit strikeout performance this season.
On the season, Hollowell has a 30-3 record with 0.76 ERA. She has pitched 212.2 innings and has struck out 289 batters. Hollowell moves to No. 3 on the UA record chart for strikeouts in a season and No. 9 for strikeouts in a career. Hollowell is one of only 12 other UA pitchers to win 30 games.
Hollowell is only the second UA pitcher to receive the award four times in one season. All-American pitcher Susie Parra received the weekly award four times in 1994.
The Cats hit the road to take on California on May 2 at 2 p.m. and Stanford on May 3 at 7 p.m. and again on May 4 at 1 p.m.
