The Wildcats posted the first score on the board at 6:21 into the game when Senior Jennifer Klein shot the ball and freshman London King got the rebound to score her first goal in her collegiate career.
The Wildcats held the 1-0 lead at halftime. At 70:47, Pepperdine junior Lindsey Redlin tied the game with a header goal. The Waves then took the lead with less than five minutes remaining in regulation when senior Megan Woods placed a cross received from Redlin in the back of the net. Redlin scored her second goal of the game at 88:19 to give Pepperdine the 3-1 victory.
Head Coach Dan Tobias feels the Waves were able to take over after the Wildcats took the lead early in the game.
“We played really well in the first 20 minutes,” Tobias said. “After we scored, we couldn’t do much right and they did a lot of things right.”
Tobias feels the Wildcats will respond in their upcoming match next weekend.
“We had our chances,” Tobias explained. “We had an opportunity to take charge of the game with a 1-0 lead and we didn’t. The credit goes to Pepperdine. We aren’t pleased with the performance after we scored. This is very uncharacteristic of this team. We have a great group and I am confident we will respond in the right way.”
