TUCSON, Ariz.- The fourth-ranked Arizona volleyball team took over sole possession of the Pac-10 lead with its 15-5, 10-15, 15-8, 15-4 victory over Oregon State Saturday night. The win, coupled with Southern California's loss to UCLA Friday night, gives the Wildcats (21-2, 14-1 Pac-10) a game-and-a-half lead over the Women of Troy (19-2, 12-2 Pac-10) and Bruins (17-5, 12-2 Pac-10)in the conference title chase. The first place standing is the latest in the season the Wildcats have ever been atop the Pac-10 in school history.

The Beavers, who aided the UA cause earlier in the season with an upset win at UCLA, gave the Wildcats all they could handle Saturday, scrapping and fighting each point, but could not overcome UA's resolve and .348 hitting.

The Wildcats won the first game going away on the strength of .524 hitting and runs of 7-0 and 5-0, but would let a 9-6 lead in the second slip away, as Oregon State went on a 9-1 run to even the match at 1-1.

The Beavers appeared to have momentum after the break, jumping out to a 5-2 lead, but the Wildcats would answer with three straight points to even the match. The Beavers would tack on another point to make it 6-5, but from there on it was all Arizona as they went on a 10-2 run to take the game.

The fourth game saw Arizona race out to a 13-1 lead that was too much for Oregon State to overcome and the match went to the Cats.

Statistically, Arizona out-hit Oregon State .348 to .138, out blocked them 11 to seven and out-dug them 55-46. UA had 63 kills on 135 attempts and 16 errors for the match.

Individually, the NCAA's leading hitter, Marisa DaLee, had 13 kills on 26 attempts and no errors for a .500 hitting percentage, marking the 11th time this season she has hit .500 or better in a match. Sophomore Lisa Rutledge had a match-high .571 attack percentage with 13 kills on 21 swings and only one error. Senior Allison Napier led all players with 18 kills and also tallied 10 digs. Dana Burkholder and Jill Talbot had 13 and 12 digs, respectively. Burkholder also dished out 43 assists and Talbot recorded a match-high five blocks.

The Wildcats will face arguably the toughest three-match stretch in school history next week as they take on 10th-ranked Florida in a non-conference showdown in McKale on Tuesday and then travel to Los Angeles, Calif., for a pivotal conference road trip against No. 3 USC on Friday and No. 8 UCLA on Saturday.
