TUCSON, Ariz. - The University of Arizona men's golf team will be back in action again quickly, as the squad will participate in the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate, Oct. 3-4, in Vestavia Hills, Ala.
The Wildcats are part of an elite 12-team field that includes Auburn, Clemson, Louisville, Middle Tennessee State, Mississippi State, Texas, Samford, SMU, UAB, UNLV and host Alabama.
The schedule left little room for rest for the Cats, as the squad finished off a fourth-place finish at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate in Albuquerque, N.M., on Oct. 1.
Arizona's lineup includes Juan Pablo Hernandez, Chris Capo, Erik Oja, Brenden Redfern and Tucker Wadkins. Oja (T5th) and Hernandez (T9th) posted top-10 finishes to open the 2011-12 campaign Saturday in Albuquerque.
The 54-hole Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate features 36 holes on Monday and 18 on Tuesday. The event will be contested at the Old Overton Country Club, a par-70, 6,936-yard layout.
Arizona has made 14 appearances in the JPNI since its inception in 1986, most recently in Oct. 2006. Though the program has never won the team title, three Wildcats have won individual medalist honors: David Berganio (1992), Rory Sabbatini (1997) and Chris Nallen (2004).
