Arizona Men?s Tennis Begin Crimson Tide Fall Invitational

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. ?- The Arizona men’s tennis team began play on Friday, in the Crimson Tide Fall Invitational in Tuscaloosa, Ala. Arizona brought three players to compete in the fall tournament.


In singles action, the Wildcats had a decent showing as they went 2-2 for the day. In the round of 32, the Wildcats had an up and down result. Sophomore Jason Labrosse defeated Juan Garzon of Southern Mississippi, 6-7 (4), 7-5, 6-4. On an adjacent court, junior Tim Mulane fell to Jimmy Bass of the University of Notre Dame 6-4, 7-5. Later on in the afternoon, Labrosse was forced to withdraw to (5) Andre Maier of the Univeristy of Alabama Birmingham, in the round of 16. Mulane was a little more successful in his consolation round as he defeated Josh Irey of Mississippi State, 7-5, 6-2. To wrap up singles action for the Wildcats, after receiving a first round bye, freshman Luka Cerenko defeated John Shults of Wake Forest, 6-4, 6-0.


On the doubles side of the court, Cerenko was paired up with Marko Miklo of Virginia, where the two of them defeated Anton Mavrin and Kristen Mitrovski of UAB, 8-6


Cerenko will continue action tomorrow morning for the Wildcats, as he will face Christian Rybertt of Jacksonville State at 11 a.m. In the afternoon, Labrosse and Mulane will face off against Arthur Mueller of Troy and Arnaud Roussel of MSU at 1 p.m., as Cerenko and Miklo will match up against Reid Bourgeois and Chris Rea of USM.
