TUCSON, Ariz. - One Shining Moment.
Fans of college basketball know exactly the setting when those three words are uttered. Thoughts of buzzer-beaters and cinderellas of mid March through early April often come to mind.
CBS's One Shining Moment has a way of recapping those memorable events each season as it is played annually at the end of every championship final.
This year, UA basketball alum and music producer Harvey Mason was tasked with reworking the classic to tune to modernize it yet still keep its charm.
"Being that it's tied into basketball and me being able to relate to One Shining Moment, it has a really special meaning to me," said Mason to UA's Dana Cooper. "This will be one of the cooler things that I've had the opportunity to do."
Mason, who played for UA under Lute Olson from 1986-1990 and was on the 1988 Final Four team, has become one of the nation's most sought after music producers. Mason has enjoyed significant success in the industry working with the likes of Jennifer Hudson, Michael Jackson, and Beyonce.
Most recently, Mason produced "More Than a Game", a documentary detailing the high school career of LeBron James and his teammates.
"I tried to inject some new energy into the song and make it up-to-date, but still keep the original feel for the song," added Mason.
The new version, sung by Hudson, made its debut last night following Duke's 61-59 championship victory over Butler.
