TUCSON, Ariz. - University of Arizona men's basketball coach Lute Olson today announced that Darnell Shumpert has been added to the roster.

Shumpert, a 6-foot-6, 177-pound forward from Tucson, Ariz., averaged 11.0 points, 10.9 rebounds, 10.6 blocked shots and 2.8 assists per game, while shooting .480 (82-of-172) from the field last season as a senior at Santa Rita High School. He led the Class 4A Gila league in both rebounds and blocked shots.

With Shumpert's help, the Eagles posted a 27-4 record in 2007-08, including a 13-0 mark in 4A Gila league competition for coach Jim Ferguson.

"Darnell is a player who can help us," said Olson. "He's got good size, good hands and moves well."

Shumpert, who prefers to be called D.J., is one of five newcomers to the Arizona roster for 2008-09.
