Arizona women’s basketball head coach Joan Bonvicini will make her stage debut at 7:30 p.m. next Thursday, Nov. 11, when she appears as the school principal in Rodgers and Hammerstein’s "Carousel." The Arizona Repertory Theatre, in the School of Theatre Arts at the University of Arizona, will perform the classic, directed by Harold Dixon.
"Carousel" is the story about the relationship between rough and tumble carnival barker Billy Bigelow and innocent factory worker Julie Jordan. The score includes American classics such as "If I Loved You," "June Is Bustin’ Out All Over" and "You’ll Never Walk Alone."
Dixon, a University Distinguished Professor, was the founding artistic director of the Arizona Repertory Theatre, the professional actor training company at the UA. He served as the acting/directing area head for 20 years.
Tickets are available through the UA Fine Arts Box Office, 520-621-1162. Visitors may park in the Park Avenue Garage, located on Park just north of Speedway Boulevard.
Bonvicini and the Wildcats open regular-season play next Friday, Nov. 12, when they host Saint Mary’s in the first round of the Sportsview.tv Preseason WNIT.
