The non-conference UA-BYU tilt is covered as one of that conference's games based on the host institution.

"This is a good development for Arizona fans and a good sign of the times for college football television in general," UA athletics director Jim Livengood said. "There are increasing opportunities for teams everywhere to have games picked for TV, to enhance their fan bases."

UA's other game against a MWC opponent this year -- the New Mexico at Arizona contest on Sept. 15, is in the mix for early selection by Pacific-10 Conference television partners ABC, FSN and TBS later this spring or summer, or could be selected later for telecast by Arizona televison partner FSN Arizona.

Arizona holds a slim edge in the Brigham Young series, which began in 1936, with an 11-8-1 mark including last year's 16-13 victory over the Cougars in the 2006 season opener at Arizona Stadium.

Brigham Young is coming off a superlative 11-2 season and MWC Championship, along with a final No. 15 ranking and the nation's fifth-best offensive attack. The matchup will feature that recent legacy against Arizona's defensive bent and its newly crafted spread offense, which head coach Mike Stoops describes as much like BYU's -- a balance of passing and power.

After opening 0-2 a year ago, BYU has a 10-game winning streak including its 38-8 thumping of Oregon in the Las Vegas Bowl in December. Fortunately for the Wildcats, BYU will be without career rushing leader Curtis Brown and yet another storied Cougar quarterback in John Beck, who both are gone along with five other key seniors.

Arizona takes a bit of its own momentum to Provo, with a 3-1 record in its last four games of the year and a three-game road winning streak. UA returns 19 starters from its bowl eligible 6-6 squad including 10 on defense.
