TUCSON -- The Arizona softball team has released their 2010 spring schedule, Head Coach Mike Candrea announced recently.
The slate - perennially one of the toughest in the country - will feature 29 games against 17 teams that made the 2009 NCAA Tournament. 21 of those matchups will pit UA against schools that advanced to the Super Regional round, and 10 are against WCWS teams.
Arizona will open the season on Feb. 12 at the Kajikawa Classic in Tempe against some stiff competition in Western Michigan and a quartet of Tournament teams. The following weekend Hillenbrand Stadium will play host to a three-game set with Missouri, who upset UCLA in the Super Regional round on their way to Oklahoma City last season.
UA will return to the Cathedral City Classic in Palm Springs, Calif. after a one-year hiatus, and will face four more Tournament teams in five games.
The Cats have an 11-game home stand that runs from March 3-14 and includes the annual Wildcat Invitational. Creighton - who downed UA 6-0 last season - is penciled in for the tournament, but times are still being finalized.
One final tournament - The Judi Garman Classic in Fullerton, Calif. - will pit UA against three Tournament teams in five games, including a Michigan squad that made the trip to Oklahoma City in 2009.
A non-conference three-game road swing at New Mexico will round out March before Arizona enters conference play.
Arizona's first six conference games are on the road at Arizona State and defending national champion Washington, but a Wednesday doubleheader against UTEP in Tucson is sandwiched in between.
UA will host Stanford and Oregon State before hitting the road to Cal and Oregon. The Cats will return home to finish the regular season against rival UCLA and Arizona's senior day is scheduled for May 15 against the Bruins.
