PALOS VERDES, Calif. ?- After the first round of the Northrop Grumman Challenge in Palos Verdes, Calif. The Arizona women’s golf team is tied for 11th place.
The Wildcats shot a 312, +28 and join Washington in 11th place. Arizona State shot 293, +9 and currently sits atop the leader board while USC, Cal Berkeley, UCLA and Wake Forest round out the top five teams.
Arizona freshman Amanda Wilson led the Wildcats shooting a 76, +5, only six strokes off the leader. In addition Wilson sank a team leading three birdies and finished round one in a tie for 25th place.
Senior Whitney Welch shot a 77, +6 and finds herself in a tie for 33rd place. After birdying two of her final five holes, freshman Lauren Espinosa is tied for 50th place with a 79, +8.
The most recent addition to the Arizona women’s golf team, Adriana Zwanck, shot an 80, +9 in her collegiate debut. Zwanck is currently tied for 56th place.
Rounding out the Wildcat squad was freshman Sommer Scholl who shot an 83, +12.
The Wildcats will be back in action tomorrow at 10 am. PST.
