Champion Earns Academic All-District Honor

TUCSON--Junior outfielder Autumn Chamnpion of Tustin, Calif., was named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District VIII team, putting herself on the ballot for Academic All-America honors.

Champion carries a cumulative grade point average of 3.254 in pre-education studies. She was chosen for the honor in  balloting by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America.

She joins former UA players Wendy Allen (2004), Nancy Evans (1998), Leah O'Brien (1997, 1995 and 1994), and Jenny Dalton (1996 and 1995) as a District VIII all-academic selection. Each of those players went on to earn Academic All-America honors in those years.

Champion is UA's second-leading hitter at .368 and twice has earned first-team All-America playing honors from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.

District VIII academic honorees include pitchers Kelly Anderson (Cal) and Jamie Southern (Fresno State); catcher Erin Myers \(Cal Poly); infielders Jennifer Curtier (Pacific), Andra Duran (UCLA), Danielle Kaminaka (Loyola Marymount) and Jessica Pamanian (Cal); designated player Kristi Leiter (Oregon); and outfielders Brandi Gordon (Pacific) and Tracie Uchima (Hawaii).
