On the Air: Tuesday’s contest can be heard live on the radio on 1290 AM in Tucson or over the internet by subscribing to Arizona’s All Access package at Brian Jeffries, the Voice of the Wildcats, and Ryan Radtke, the Voice of the Tucson Sidewinders, will split the call. Last Week: The Wildcats traveled to Las Vegas for a three-game series against UNLV ... UA won the first two games of the series, 6-5 and 9-3, but couldn’t pull off the sweep after falling 8-6 in the finale on Sunday ... The Wildcats hit .272 as a team during the series and finished with three doubles, two triples and a home run ... On the mound, the UA hurlers went 2-1 with a 4.00 ERA in 27 innings pitched.


Up Next: Arizona will host Arizona State for a midweek non-conference game at Jerry Kindall Field at Frank Sancet Stadium on Tuesday. The 4 p.m. contest will mark ASU’s lone trip to the Old Pueblo in the 2007 regular season ... After taking on the Sun Devils, Arizona will welcome in Eastern Michigan for a three-game series this Friday-Sunday.


A Quick Look at Arizona State: The Sun Devils come to Tucson for their lone 2007 appearance with a 10-3 overall mark ... They most recently swept UAB in Tempe this past weekend ... ASU is batting a Pac-10-best .365 as a team this season and leads the conference with 45 doubles ... The Devils are averaging 10.8 runs, 13.2 hits and 9.5 RBI per game this season ... Individually, Brett Wallace leads the team with a .471 batting average and 19 runs scored ... Matt Spencer has supplied the power with a team-leading four HRs and 20 RBI ... On the mound, the ASU pitching staff is 10-3 with a 2.99 ERA in 117 1/3 IP ... Opponents are hitting just .210 against Devil pitching thus far and has struck 99 times against 48 walks ... ASU has not named a starter as yet, but early indications are that Joey Parigi (1-1, 4.80 ERA) will take the mound against the Cats ... Pat Murphy is in his 13th season in Tempe and has posted a 490-245-1 record as the Devils’ skipper.


Arizona-Arizona State ?- The History ?- In a series that dates back to 1907, the Cats and Devils have met 413 times on the baseball diamond prior to this Tuesday’s contest ... UA owns a 227-185-1 advantage in the all-time series and has won the season series against ASU each of the last two years ... Last season Arizona and Arizona State split their two non-conference games, with the Wildcats winning 12-8 in the inaugural Challenge at Chase and the Devils prevailing 22-8 later in the season in Tempe.


Thus Far: The Wildcats have opened the season with an 11-3 mark through the first 14 games ... As a team UA is batting .312 with 35 doubles, nine triples, 13 home runs and 93 RBI ... The Cats are averaging 7.6 runs, 10.6 hits and 6.6 RBI per game thus far ... On the mound, the UA pitching staff has a 2.98 ERA in 124 innings of work ... Opponents have hit just .228 against the Arizona staff while striking out 123 times and walking only 48 times.


Welcome Back: Junior Colt Sedbrook rejoined the Wildcats this past weekend at UNLV after missing the first 11 games of the season due to personal issues ... In his first three games back, Sedbrook went 3 for 11 (.273) with three walks, two sac bunts, a HBP ?- the 28th in his career ?- and three runs scored.


Grand Theft: The Wildcats have been opportunistic on the base paths this season. Arizona is 16 for 22 in stolen base tries 14 games into the season (73 %), and a perfect 10 for 10 in the last 10 attempts, including 5 for 5 against UNLV last weekend. Individually, freshman shortstop Robert Abel leads the team with an unblemished 6 for 6 mark. Others with multiple thefts are Bill Rhinehart (3 for 4) and T.J. Steele (3 for 3).


Extra, Extra: The Wildcats currently lead the Pac-10 with nine triples and 13 home runs and are second in the conference with 35 doubles ... Arizona has collected at least one extra base hit in all 14 games thus far.


Mound Meanies: A year removed from posting the worst ERA in the Pac-10, the UA pitching staff has turned it around in the early going this year. The Cats enter the game against Arizona State with the lowest ERA in the conference (2.98) despite having the second-most innings pitched (124) ... The pitching staff also leads the conference with 123 strikeouts this season and has walked just 48.


Tuesday’s Starter Paul Bargas: Freshman left-hander Paul Bargas has earned the start for the non-conference game against Arizona State. The true freshman is 1-0 with 0.84 ERA in 10 2/3 innings of work ... He most recently tossed 2 2/3 scoreless innings against UNLV last Saturday ... The southpaw has yet to walk a batter this season to go along with his eight Ks ... Tuesday will be his second career start for the Wildcats. He started UA’s Feb. 7 game against Utah Valley State and gave up one run on three hits over six innings. He finished his with his first career victory and five strikeouts.
