TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Mike Bell ran 14 yards for a touchdown and Gary Love returned a blocked field goal 65 yards for another TD - all in the final 2˝ minutes of the first half - and Arizona held off surprising North Texas 14-9 Saturday night.

Arizona (3-1) nearly gave North Texas (1-4) another chance when Bobby Gill had his 44-yard field goal blocked 4:58 left - the Wildcats' fourth missed field goal of the game. But Arizona got the ball back and ran out the final 2:44.

The Mean Green entered the game ranked last among the 117 Division I-A schools in total offense, but they more than doubled their best output of the season with 431 total yards - 236 more than its average.

North Texas failed to score four times when it had the ball inside Arizona's 20.

Kevin Galbreath gained 104 yards on 22 carries and Andrew Smith threw for 149 yards for North Texas, which used two field goals by Nick Bazaldua to take a 6-0 lead with 8:13 left in the first half.

Arizona's Joe Siofele caused Andrew Smith to fumble as he was being sacked, and Clay Hardt picked up the ball and went 6 yards to the North Texas 14. That set up Bell's TD run on the next play with 2:34 left.

North Texas drove to the Arizona 14 in the final seconds of the half before Siofele sacked Smith on a second-and-3 play, setting up a 36-yard field goal try by Bazaldua with 2 seconds showing. Carlos Williams blocked the kick and Love returned it for a touchdown and a 14-6 lead.

Sean Keel had a 23-yard field-goal try blocked and also missed from 26 yards in the half. In the third quarter, Keel was wide right on a 32-yard attempt, and Gill came in, only to miss the 44-yarder.
