TUCSON, Ariz. - Taking a cue from its best player, the University of Arizona posted its best round of the tournament Thursday and moved into 10th place following the third round of the 2003 NCAA Women's Golf Championships in West Lafayette, Ind.

Freshman Erica Blasberg carded a two-under-par 70, Arizona's first sub-par round of the championships, to lead the Wildcats to a seven-over 295 in Thursday's third round and a 54-hole 927 (+63) total. That is 26 strokes behind tournament-leader USC at 901 (+37). Pepperdine (908), Oklahoma State (912), Texas (917) and Florida (918) round out the top five places. Arizona's third-round tally was its best in the event to date and the fourth-best total by any team in the field.

Blasberg's efforts moved her into a tie for 22nd place at 229 (+13). Her third-round score moved her 39 places up the leaderboard and was one of just eight sub-par scores on the day. USC's Mikaela Parmlid and Florida's Andrea Vander Lende share the lead in the field of 125 with a four-over 220 total.

Two other Wildcats rank in the top 50, as seniors Laura Myerscough and Anne Lee are tied for 35th and 42nd places, respectively. Myerscough tallied a four-over 76 and has a three-round total of 231 (+15). Lee shot a three-over 75 and has a 232 (+16) total.

Also competing for Arizona was freshman Cassandra Kirkland, who is tied for 60th place at 235 (+19), and sophomore Miriam Kraschinski, who is tied for 93rd place at 243 (+27).

The 2003 NCAA Women's Golf Championships continue through Friday at Purdue University's Kampen Course, a par-72, 6,225-yard layout.
