TUCSON - The University of Arizona Wildcat women's basketball team had their first official team practice of the 2011-12 season on Monday at Richard Jefferson Gymnasium. The full coaching staff and all 11 players were in attendance.

Head coach Niya Butts, in her fourth season at the helm of the Wildcat program, welcomes back five letterwinners from the 2010-11 season that saw UA win 21 games and participate in postseason play for the first time since the 2004-05 season. Among those returners are All-Pac-10 honoree junior Davellyn Whyte and the 2010-11 Pac-10 assists leader senior Shanita Arnold.

Six newcomers, three true freshmen and three junior transfers, will join the Wildcat squad this season, including 6-5 freshman center Aley Rohde from Cave Creek, Ariz. and Pinnacle High School.

Arizona will spend the next four weeks practicing before the competition season starts with exhibition games vs. Western State (Colorado) on Nov. 2 and vs. Grand Canyon on Nov. 6.
