No. 15 Arizona Volleyball Remains Undefeated in Pac-10 Play

TUCSON, Ariz. ?- The No. 15 Arizona volleyball team remained undefeated in conference play with a three-game sweep (30-20, 30-19, 30-25) of Oregon tonight at McKale Center. With the win, the Wildcats improve to 10-1 overall and 2-0 in the Pac-10.


Arizona hit .364 on the match, compared to the .200 of Oregon. The Wildcats also tallied seven aces on the match to the Ducks’ one.


“Up until intermission was the best I had seen this group play in the last three years,” Head Coach David Rubio said. “It was one of the few times that I have felt we played a really good match from start to finish.”


Senior Jennifer Abernathy led Arizona with 20 kills. She also added eight digs. Senior Kim Glass notched her sixth double-double of the season ?- finishing with 10 kills and a team-high 12 digs. Sophomore setter Amy Dyck dished out 51 assists on the match to go along with seven digs.


The Wildcats scored the first four points in game one and cruised to a 30-20 win. Arizona hit .371 on the game and held the Ducks to .176. Abernathy led Arizona with eight kills.


Arizona used a 5-0 run early in game two to put it out of reach for the Ducks. The Wildcats led by as many as 12 points en route to the 30-19 win. Arizona hit a blazing .405 on the game, compared to the .188 of Oregon. Abernathy again paced Arizona with eight kills.


The Wildcats got off to a slow start in game three, missing six serves before reaching 10 points. Arizona took its first lead (16-15) on a Glass kill and never trailed again, winning by five points, 30-25.



Arizona travels to Washington next Friday and Saturday, Sept. 30 and Oct. 1, where it will face Washington State and No. 2 Washington, respectively. Both matches begin at 7 p.m.
