Arizona tennis completes day 1 of New Mexico Invitational

ALBUQUERQUE--The Arizona women's tennis squad opened the first day of the New Mexico Invitational with 7 wins on the day.

In singles, sophomore Natasha Marks started the day with a loss to University of Denver's Julia Bauregger 3-6, 7-5, 6-0. Next, Marks defeated New Mexico's Anya Villanueva-Forte 6-0, 6-3.

Senior Ariane Masschelein lost her first match to Texas Tech's Kelsey Garland, 6-3, 6-2, but came back to defeat New Mexico's Ashley Bonner 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Sophomore Sarah Landsman defeated New Mexico's Manumea Durie 6-2, 6-0 before coming out on top over Denver's Ute Schnoy 6-4, 6-2.

Junior Jane Huh lost to Boise State's Rocio Frej in her first match of the day, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, but battled back to defeat New Mexico's Michaela Oldanie 6-4, 7-5 in her second match of the day.

In doubles, Masschelein and Huh defeated Texas Tech's Starck and Potgieter 8-6, and Marks and Landsman defeated New Mexico's Shipperd and Richardson 8-4.

Tomorrow, the Wildcats will continue play at the New Mexico Invitational, which finishes Sunday, September 27.
