Head Coach Niya Butts and the Arizona women’s basketball team (12-15, 4-12) will open postseason play on Thursday, March 7 to face Utah (17-12, 8-10) at 2:30 p.m. PT. at KeyArena in Seattle, Wash. in the first round of the 2013 Pac-12 Tournament.
The game will be broadcast live on the Pac-12 Networks with Anne Marie Anderson, Tammy Blackburn and Krista Blunk calling the action.
The Wildcats fell to USC, 74-62, on Friday night and are coming off a 68-57 loss to No. 16 UCLA on Sunday, while Utah has won six of its last eight contests.
All-Pac-12 selection Davellyn Whyte (Phoenix, Ariz.) leads the team with 16.6 points, 6.2 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 2.6 steals per game.
Junior Kama Griffitts (Coeur d’Alene, Idaho) also averages in double digits with 11.0 ppg and junior Alli Gloyd (Phoenix, Ariz.) averages 9.6 ppg and 6.0 rpg.
Utah is led by third-year Head Coach Anthony Levrets. Three players average in double figures, led by junior Michele Plouffe with 16.7 ppg and 8.3 rpg. Junior Taryn Wicijowski averages 14.3 ppg, while senior Iwalani Rodrigues averages 12.3
As a team, the Utes rank first in the Pac-12 in three-point percentage (.345) and defensive rebounding percentage (.729), second in three-point percentage defense (.270) and third in scoring defense (55.0) and rebounding defense (34.9).
Arizona and Utah have met twice this season with the Wildcats taking both contests. The winner of the game will advance to play No. 13 UCLA at 2:30 p.m. PT on Friday, March 8.
