FEDERAL WAY, Wash. -
Juniors Ellyn Baumgardner (Fairfax, Va.) and Lauren Smart (Charlotte, N.C.), sophomore diver Samantha Pickens (Murrysville, Pa.) and Arizona's 400-medley relay team all highlighted the third day of the Pac-12 Championships on Friday.
Baumgardner earned a runner-up finish in the 100 breast with a time of 59.79, while teammates Chelsey Salli (Vancouver, B.C.) and Eve Sarris (Adelaide, South Australia) were not far behind in fifth and sixth places, respectively.
Smart also earned a runner-up finish in the 100 back with a time of 52.13. Sophomore Sarah Denninghoff (Tucson, Ariz.) was right behind her with a fifth-place finish.
In the preliminary 3m diving round, Pickens destroyed the previous conference record by 30 points, set by Tiffany Manning in 2006. Pickens faltered slightly in the finals, but still came out in fourth place. Teammate Ainsley Oliver (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) finished in seventh in the event.
In addition, Arizona's 400-medley relay team finished in second behind California, who set a new NCAA record on Friday night. Denninghoff, Baumgardner, Smart and sophomore Margo Geer (Milford Center, Ohio) swam for the Wildcats.
Arizona will wrap up competition on Saturday at 11 a.m. PT with the preliminary rounds of the 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly and the 400 free relay. The diving portion will feature the men's and women's platform competition.
