Six-foot-4 sophomore swingman to be closer to home

TUCSON, Ariz. ?- University of Arizona head men’s basketball coach Lute Olson announced Saturday that Jesus Verdejo has decided to transfer to the University of Miami.

Verdejo, a 6-foot-4, 195-pound sophomore guard/forward from Carolina, Puerto Rico, will attend the Coral Gables, Fla., institution. He had opted to redshirt during the 2005-06 season. In 26 appearances last season, Verdejo averaged 2.3 points and 0.4 rebounds per game.

“Jesus was a great addition to the program and a fine teammate,” said Olson.  “He wanted to be closer to home and we support him in that decision.”

Twenty-fourth-ranked Arizona (3-3) will next be in action on Saturday, Dec. 10, as the Wildcats host Saint Mary’s. Tip-off is scheduled for noon MST and can be seen live on FSN Arizona.
