Philadelphia, Pa. ?- The Arizona women’s tennis team will send three players to Philadelphia Sept. 24-26 for the Cissie Leary Invitational. The three players, senior Kelly Perry, junior Iza Ferreira and freshman Camelia Todorova will all be making their first appearances of the fall season.
Perry, the only American-born Wildcat on this year’s roster, finished last season with a 16-13 record while playing in the third through sixth positions for the Wildcats. Perry, the only Wildcat senior not in the ITA’s preseason rankings, enjoyed a six-match win streak at the beginning of the spring season last year.
Ferreira, opens her second season as a Wildcat after competing for Southwest Baptist University in her freshman year (2002-03). Playing primarily in the No. 6 position for dual matches, she struggled last year, compiling a 6-17 record. At Southwest Baptist, Ferreira earned a 16-1 record, while garnering freshman of the year honors.
Todorova, a native Bulgarian, will be making her collegiate debut in the tournament. The recent Mt. Everest Academy (La Jolla, Calif.) graduate was the doubles champion in the Yourtennisadvantage.com tournament held in Tucson, Ariz., in October 2003.
The Wildcats will be joined by at the tournament by a host of East Coast universities including Princeton, Harvard, Columbia, Penn State, Maryland, Temple, Cleveland State, and tournament host Penn.
