Arizona Women?s Golf Tied in Ninth At Regional Challenge

PALOS VERDES ESTATES, Calif. ?- The Arizona women's golf team continued play at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge in Palos Verdes Estates, Calif. on Tuesday. The Wildcats are currently tied for ninth with Ohio State after the second round.


The Wildcats shot a 22-over-par 306 for a two day total of 613 (+45) to trail tournament leader Pepperdine by 21 strokes after the Waves shot a 24-over-par 592. Duke and UCLA are tied in second at 25-over-par 593. Florida (599) and Oklahoma State (601) are in fourth and fifth, respectively, to round out the top-five.


Individually, junior Cassandra Kirkland leads the Wildcats. Kirkland is in a tie for 20th after shooting a 6-over-par 77 in the second round. Kirkland finished out the round with birdies on both the seventh and ninth holes. 


Senior Miriam Kraschinski shot a 75 (+4) in today’s second round. Kraschinski, who was tied for 53rd after the first round, is now tied for 30th with a 153 (+11). Junior Whitney Welch is tied for 46th at 13-over-par 155.


Senior Mar Garcia improved from her first round by shooting a 4-over-par 75 in round two. Garcia, who was tied for 78th after Monday’s first round jumped to a tie for 65th thanks to her second-round score. Junior Lani Elston is tied for 68th after she shot an 21-over-par 163.


The Wildcats will tee off tomorrow in an 8:30 a.m. (PST) shotgun start to finish the tournament. The tournament is being contested at Palos Verdes Golf Club, a par 71 over a 5,912-yard layout.
