TUCSON - Arizona Softball

Game 26 - vs. Missouri Tigers

Sophomore All-American Alicia Hollowell picked up where she left off last week, and tossed a no-hit shutout over Missouri, 5-0, to open a three-game series Friday afternoon.

Last Saturday Hollowell threw a seven-nning perfect game, striking out 20 batters, and struck out three in an inning of relief on Sunday. The no-hitters in successive starts were the first for UA since Nancy Evans, now a UA assistant coach, did so in 1995.

Hollowell (16-0) struck out 14. Two Missouri players reached base -- Sarah Stringer being hit by a pitch in the fourthg and Ashley Hayes reaching on an error in the sixth.

Mackenzie Vandergeest's two-run double gave UA a first-inning lead after Caitlin Lowe singled and Wendy Allen drew a walk off Mizzou pitcher Erin Kalka.

Lowe tripled down the left field line in the second to drive in Samantha Quintero, who had singled, for a 3-0 lead.

Arizona had a chance for a big inning in the fourth and missed, but still came up with another run. Kristie Fox led off with a single, but was thrown out trying to steal. Quintero walked and moved to second on a single by Crystal Farley, but was called out for interference trying to move up on Lowe's fielder's choice. Pinch-hitter Candace Abrams singled in Farley for the score.

Lowe doubled down the right field line to drive in another run in the bottom of the sixth for UA's final score.

UA improved to 26-0, while Missouri dropped to 10-13. The two teams meet at 1 p.m. Saturday.
