After taking a short break over the holidays, GymCat Corner will be updated each week during the season with a new blog from an Arizona Gymnast. This week, the Wildcats open the 2007 season on the road at Michigan State. Freshman Miranda Russell recaps the recent practices leading up to the season-opener.

Hello GymCat Fans!

The season is finally here!  The team has been working so hard during these last couple months leading up to the season, and it’s definitely showing.  We’ve taken the final two weeks before our first meet this Friday (at Michigan State) to do fine tuning and perfecting.  This last Saturday we actually had a ?'mock meet’ in our practice gym where we truly stepped up.  The overall excitement was obvious throughout, and we didn’t have to count a single fall.  Of course, there were a few glitches in places, but nothing we weren’t eager to fix for the next weekend.

Our next practice came Monday and took place in McKale Center, where we have all of our home competitions.  This practice enabled us to get used to our home equipment and adapt to our surroundings.  Overall it went pretty well, with a few problems here and there.  The McKale workout further heightened our anticipation and made the season feel that much closer.

Only two more practices before we travel to the first meet of the year at Michigan State on Friday.  Several of us on the team will get to see family and friends nearby, especially Bree, who is a Michigan native.  Personally, as a freshman, I am extremely pumped to not only start the season, but make an impact as a team right away.  We all cannot wait to do well and have a phenomenal year!

Remember to come cheer us on when we make our debut at home on January 26th!
