Nov. 26, 2002
The University of Arizona women's basketball team received votes for ranking in both the Associated Press Top 25 and the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll this week. The Wildcats got several votes after taking No. 3 LSU into overtime before falling by only seven points in the season opener on Nov. 22 and then defeating Pepperdine, another team receiving votes, on the road Nov. 30.
This is the first time since Jan. 7, 2002, that the Cats have received any votes for ranking in either poll. Arizona received nine votes in this week's Coaches' Poll. The last time the Cats earned votes in the Coaches' Poll was last January, when they received just one vote. This week's nine votes is the most Arizona has received in the Coaches' Poll since getting 48 in the Nov. 26, 2001, poll.
This also marks the first time since Dec. 3, 2001, that the Wildcats have received any votes in the AP Top 25. During that December poll, Arizona got just six votes. The 11 votes Arizona earned this week is the most the Wildcats have received since getting 93 votes in the Nov. 26, 2001, poll, after they knocked off then-No. 15 Notre Dame.
Next up, the Wildcats will face No. 8 Georgia at home on Saturday, Nov. 30, at 4 p.m. in the McKale Center.
