Despite a slow morning preliminary start, the No. 1 Arizona Men’s Swimming team posted some strong finishes in finals after the first full day of the Pac-12 Championships on Thursday.

Senior Adam Small (Tempe, Ariz.) and sophomore Woody Joye (Coosada, Ala.) both posted top-five finishes, as Small finished third in the 50 free and Joye fifth in the 200 IM.

In addition, seniors Kelley Wyman (Ft. Pierce, Fla.) and Cory Chitwood (Union, Ky.) both earned sixth-place finishes in the 50 free and 200 IM, respectively.

“We had a better day today,” Arizona head coach Eric Hansen said. “We got some key swims that we needed and I’m really happy with the way we performed in the 200 IM. We are continuing to work and making progress towards our goals.”

Arizona concluded day one in third place, behind California and leader Stanford.

The Wildcats will be back in action on Friday, March 2 for the second full day of competition. Events will include the 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 back and the 400 medley relay. Prelims will begin at 11 a.m. PT and finals at 6 p.m. PT.
