Venice, Italy ?- The University of Arizona women’s basketball team improved to 3-0 on its tour of Italy with a 106-25 win over Virtus-Venezia on Friday night in Venice, Italy. The Wildcats held Venice to just six points in over 25 minutes of play.
Individually for Arizona, forward Amina Njonkou led the Wildcats with 32 points and 11 rebounds, and guard Ashley Whisonant finished with 23 points, seven assists, and five steals. Center Suzy Bofia posted 15 points, 14 rebounds and six blocked shots.
Arizona showed its dominance early, rolling to a 32-9 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Wildcats held Venice scoreless for over eight minutes in the second quarter, and took a 56-12 halftime lead.
UA continued to pressure Venice on defense and posted an 18-3 advantage in the third quarter to take a 74-15 lead going into the fourth.
Arizona went on to out-score Venice 32-10 in the final quarter of play.
Forward Shannon Hobson added eight points and 11 rebounds, and guard Marie McGee posted 11 points, three rebounds, seven assists and seven steals. Forward Rhaya Neabors finished with 16 points, six rebounds, six assists and two steals, and guard Malia O’Neal posted a point, six rebounds, 10 assists, and two steals.
Arizona will next play on Tuesday, May 22.
