In-State Rivals: For their only match of the week, the Wildcats (3-2, 0-1) will take on the Arizona State Sun Devils (2-2, 0-1)in Tempe on Saturday Feb. 28 at 1:00 p.m.
Rained Out: The women's tennis team travelled to Southern California this past weekend to take on USC and UCLA. Both matches were cancelled due to rain. The cancelled matches mean that the Wildcats have not competed since Feb. 14 when they lost 6-1 to Oregon.
The Sun Devils: The No. 25 Sun Devils bring new faces to the courts this year. Arizona State only returns three veterans, while losing four players last season. The loss of players has allowed Arizona State to add six freshman new-comers to its lineup. The Sun Devils have no singles players in the national ITA top-100 rankings. In doubles, the top pair for the Sun Devils is the team of freshman Kady Pooler and freshman Rebecca Rankin. The No. 20 ranked pair are 6-2 on the season. Arizona State's two wins came against Indiana University - Bloomington and University of the Pacific. The two losses came against conference rivals No. 8 UCLA and No. 24 Oregon. Arizona State has the advantage in the series record against the Wildcats, 26-15. Last season Arizona won its sole match against Arizona State, 4-3.
Ranked Wildcats: The Wildcats as a team dropped from No. 34 to No. 40 in the ITA college tennis rankings. Junior Dianne Hollands fell in the rankings from No. 28 to No. 34. Junior Maja Mlakar also slipped in the rankings from No. 29 to No. 66. The juniors as a pair moved up in the doubles rankings from No. 19 to No. 18.
Undefeated: Junior Kelly Perry is the only undefeated Wildcat left for the 2004 dual-match season. Perry is now 5-0 in singles matches in the 5th position. No. 18 ranked juniors Dianne Hollands and Maja Mlakar have teamed up in the No. 1 doubles position for the Wildcats and have earned a record of 4-0.
