Arizona head coach Sean Miller
"First of all I want to thank all of our fans. Tonight the nation had an opportunity to see what we already knew which is that there may not be another home court or crowd better than here. We really needed them to stick to the end and that's when we needed them. It was in the end that we came through. I almost feel guilty beating Florida from this perspective. Throughout the game, they outplayed us. In the last four minutes, they fought for every play. It was a total team win. You can point to every player on our team, and they made a positive impact. Obviously there were those big plays when a guy needs to make a big shot. Mark Lyons' shot was one of the biggest shots I've seen. There was no doubt in my mind that it was going in. We benefit by having him on our team."
On preparing for situations such as the last 30-seconds of the game:
"We practice special situations all the time. It's the player that has to make the play. We didn't call a timeout today. One reason we didn't call a timeout whether the shot went in or not was because when you call a timeout you don't know if they're going to be in the zone or not. Florida plays 50/50 zone and 50/50 man. I trusted the guys on the court that what we called would be executed. We gave a lot of threes but I don't see that as a lack of effort. They are a great shooting team. They play so well off each other, but what we did defensively was as good as we could do at this time of the year."
On preventing turnovers in the second half:
"We made a couple of adjustments in the second half. It's tough to turn over the balls a couple of times and try to put it behind you. One of the things our big freshmen also learned was that it's not easy to get an offensive rebound with a team like Florida. If you look at their rebounding they took over."
On Coach Miller's motto "Stick to it":
"It's a great lesson. We always talk about finishing a game. We had a great finish a couple games ago against Southern Mississippi. One thing I like about our team is that each of our players has taken turns. Even when one of our guys has an off night, the team as a collective group is able to make up for that. On any one night, any of our players can have a great night."
Arizona Player Quotes
Sophomore guard Nick Johnson
On momentum going into halftime:
"We just wanted to stay with it. Coach (Miller) told us to come out and win the fifth war and that's what we did. We got out on the break and hit shots."
On victory over No.5 team:
"We're the real deal. Everybody said something about our schedule before this and this was the opportunity to prove ourselves in front of the nation. We have a lot to do to get better, but we're going to keep on practicing to get better."
Senior forward Solomon Hill
On general thoughts of the game:
"We kept fighting. There were times when they hit threes and we could have given up, but our guys stuck in there. We got the steals, and we made them count."
On what take away from a game like this:
"Just to stay with it. Coach (Miller) and I got into it a couple times in practice about a drill of ending the drill with 20 seconds left. I told him that we have to finish it because you never know what can happen. Our guys now understand that we have to finish the game off and to stay with it."
On what this does for confidence of team:
"I think teams now understand that the things we do are serious. We did a good job on offensive rebounding tonight, but there are a lot of things we can improve on. It's great to get a win at home since they got the win at home last year against us. This was a great one for our team confidence and to keep going forward."
Senior guard Mark Lyons
Was this the biggest shot of life:
"It was probably the second biggest shot of my life...I've been a confident guy since I walked in thanks to my teammates. They have given me the confidence, and I feed off them. They made great plays all game and I just finished it for us."
