TUCSON - University of Arizona football's Marquis Flowers was named a College Football Performance Awards Honorable Mention Linebacker of the Week, it was announced on Sunday. The junior from Phoenix paced the Wildcat defense with 13 total tackles, including 12 solo, with one sack for a loss of nine yards and two tackles for a total loss of 12 yards in Saturday's loss to UCLA.
Flowers' move from the secondary to linebacker in late August has proved to be one of the most efficient personnel changes for the squad this season. Against the Bruins, he led the team in total tackles for the first time this season with his baker's dozen. On the season, he has 68 total tackles to rank second among the Wildcats. He also ranks sixth among Pac-12 players in tackles per game with 7.56.
He leads the team in sacks on the season with 4.5 for a loss of 35 yards and is second overall in tackles for loss with 9.5 for 48 yards. His season stat line also includes two interceptions returned for 14 yards, three forced fumbles and three passes broken up.
The Wildcats will return to Arizona Stadium on Sat., Nov. 10 to host Colorado for Homecoming. The game will kickoff at 11:30 a.m. MT and will air nationally on FX.
