Arizona soccer intra-squad scrimmage notes and quotes...

...The University of Arizona women’s soccer team took the field for its first game of the season in an exhibition scrimmage. Team “U” took on team “A”. The Wildcats were split between the two teams. The first half was scoreless. In the second half each team scored once with team “A” scoring first with a goal by senior striker Kamaya Damwijk. Shortly after Damwijk’s goal, junior striker Nikki David tied the game with a goal for team “U”. The game then went into overtime where Damwijk once again scored to give team “A” the victory...

...Head Coach Dan Tobias feels the scrimmage gives the Wildcats a good idea of where they are as they prepare for the beginning of the season. “The game gave us a lot of information. There were a lot of positive things that happened, but it also gives us an indicator of where we need to improve on both sides of the ball,” Tobias said...

...Senior walk-on Kamaya Damwijk scored both goals for team “A” tonight including the game-winning goal in overtime. “Kamaya had a nice debut. I think she just needed an opportunity. Tonight, she took advantage of an opportunity,” Tobias explained...

...Along with Damwijk, eleven other newcomers debuted tonight. Team “U” started six freshman including goalkeeper McCall Smith, defenders Shaylyn Scott, Claire Bodiya, Amanda Urtuzuastegui and Kaity Heath, and midfielder Nicole Scheid.  All of the defenders from team “U” came from the Phoenix soccer club the Sereno Golden Eagles and have played together in the past...

...The team will prepare this week for the Cyclone Classic tournament this weekend in Ames, Iowa. Arizona will take on Iowa State in its first match of the season on Friday Aug. 27...
