TUCSON, Ariz. - University of Arizona men's basketball player D.J. Shumpert announced Monday that he will transfer to another school. He has yet to indicate which school he will attend.
Shumpert, a 6-foot-7, 190-pound sophomore forward from Tucson, Ariz., averaged 0.2 points, 0.7 rebounds and 0.2 assists per game in 10 appearances (no starts) this season. He averaged 2.1 minutes per game.
His most productive appearance came on Dec. 12 at San Diego State when he hit two free throws and grabbed an offensive rebound. Seven of his 10 appearances in 2009-10 came in the non-conference portion of the schedule.
In his two-year career, Shumpert made 14 appearances for the Wildcats, averaging 0.1 points, 0.8 rebounds and 0.2 assists per game.
"D.J. Shumpert is a fantastic kid and was an exceptional teammate and representative of our basketball program during his two years at Arizona," said head coach Sean Miller. "Like a lot of young players he wants to put himself in a position to have a more significant role as a basketball player in his future. We mutually agreed that pursuing that at another program would be best for him. We wish D.J. all the best in his future, and in the meantime, he will continue to workout and be a part of our postseason program."
Shumpert was the last UA player recruited by Lute Olson.
Arizona closed the 2009-10 campaign with a 16-14 record overall, including a 10-8 mark in Pac-10 play.
