Women's Tennis Takes to the Road For Pac-10 Play

The No. 45 ranked University of Arizona women's tennis team will begin a six-game road trip this Friday when they travel to the University of Oregon to play the No. 65 ranked Ducks. The Cats will then travel to California to face No. 7 USC on Feb. 22 and No. 15 UCLA on Feb. 23. Arizona wraps up Pac-10 play on the road trip by traveling to Tempe on Feb. 27 to play No. 8 Arizona State. The Wildcats last two matches of the trip will be in Texas when they face No. 19 Texas A&M on March 1 and the No. 9 University of Texas on March 3.

Cats In The Polls: The Arizona women's tennis team moved up six spots in the latest polls released by the ITA on Jan. 30. The Cats were previously ranked No. 51 but after going 3-0 this spring in dual meets have moved up to No. 45. Arizona sophomore Debbie Larocque is ranked No. 54 in singles while freshman Maja Mlakar sits in the No. 89 spot according to the ITA rankings. The doubles team of Larocque and Mlakar is ranked No. 56 by the ITA.

 
 

Opponent Rankings: The Wildcats will face 16 of the top 100 ranked women in singles play in their next six road matches. Topping off the list is No. 6 ranked Sara Walker of UCLA. Following Walker is UCLA teammate Megan Bradley in the No. 7 spot. In doubles action, Arizona will face eight of the top 54 ranked duos in the nation. Topping off the list is No. 8 Petya Marinova and Sara Walker of UCLA. Also ranked in the top-20 is USC's No. 10 ranked duo of Tiffany Brymer and Jewel Peterson.

Streaks: A number of Arizona players have winning streaks heading in to the six-game road trip. Freshmen Maja Mlakar and Marie-Pier Pouliot along with sophomore Debbie Larocque each have won their past three singles matches. In doubles, Mlakar and Larocque have a three-match winning streak while the duo of freshman Dianne Hollands and sophomore Perrine Pernin carry a two-match winning streak into Oregon.

Last Match: The Wildcats defeated then No. 58 ranked New Mexico 5-2. The Wildcats won four of six singles matches and two of the three doubles matches.

Next Match: Arizona travels to Eugene, Oregon on Friday Feb. 17 to take on the No. 65 Oregon Ducks. The match is scheduled to begin at noon PST.
