TUCSON, Ariz.- The third-ranked Arizona volleyball team dropped only its second Pac-10 match of the season Friday night, a 9-15, 11-15, 15-12, 4-15 loss to rival USC. The loss snaps Arizonas perfect record on the road this season and elevates the Women of Troy (21-2, 14-2 Pac-10) into a first place tie with Arizona (22-3, 14-2 Pac-10) for the conference championship with two matches remaining.

Arizona hit .235 to USCs .378 for the match. The Wildcats tallied 70 kills on 162 attempts and 32 errors. USC out-blocked the Cats 15-12, while the two teams recorded 50 digs apiece.

Individually, three Arizona players recorded double digit kills for the match. Senior Allison Napier led the Cats with a match-high tying 20 kills and three solo blocks. Lisa Rutledge and Jill Talbot had 17 and 15 kills, respectively, with attack percentages of .303 and .321. Rutledge also had 10 digs. Setter Dana Burkholder tallied 60 of Arizonas 69 assists, eight digs and three total blocks, including two solo.

The Wildcats did earn a minor victory over USC in the loss. Should Arizona and USC remain as the only two schools tied for the Pac-10 championship, the Wildcats would receive the Pac-10's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament by virtue of the conference tie-breaking rules. Since neither team won the season series, splitting it 1-1, the tie-breaker goes to games won between the two schools. Arizona won four games in the head-to-head match-up to USCs three.

The Wildcats will face No. 7 UCLA tomorrow night in Los Angeles and intrastate rival Arizona State at the McKale Center on Nov. 18, while USC travels to Washington to take on the Huskies on Nov. 17, and Washington State, Nov. 18. An Arizona win over the Bruins tomorrow gives the Wildcats a half-game lead over the Women of Troy, a loss drops them to second behind both USC and UCLA. First serve tomorrow is 8 p.m. MST.
