 Tyler finishes tied for 27th place individually


TUCSON, Ariz. ?- The University of Arizona’s men’s golf team finished in a tie for 12th place Monday at The Preview by Ping & Golfweek in Owings Mills, Md.


Only one Arizona golfer shot even par in Monday’s final round as the Wildcats carded a 15-over-par 295 en route to a 884 (+44) total.  UA finished in a tie for 12th place in the 15-team tournament with California and UCLA. Oklahoma State won the event with a three-round total of 848 (+8).  Georgia Tech (852), Georgia (861), Texas (862) and Florida (862) rounded out the top five places.


UA sophomore Nathan Tyler was Arizona’s top finisher.  The Tucson, Ariz., native shot a final round 74 (+4) to tie for 27th place at 219.  Oklahoma State’s Pablo Martin captured individual medalist honors with a four-under 206 total.


Also competing for the Wildcats was sophomore Henry Liaw, who tied for 34th place at 210 (+10), senior Nathan Lashley, who tied for 36th place at 221 (+11), sophomore Josh Esler, who tied for 50th place at 224 (+14) and sophomore Mark Lamb, who tied for 66th place at 233 (+23).


Lashley’s even-par 70 on Monday was just Arizona’s third round at par or better in 30 individual rounds played this season.


The Preview by Ping & Golfweek was contested at Caves Valley Golf Course, a par 70, 7,124-yard layout.  The course will host the 2005 NCAA Men’s Golf Championships.


Arizona will next be in action, Oct. 1-2, at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate in Albuquerque, N.M.
