TUCSON, Ariz. -- The University of Arizona women's basketball program has inked a late signee, announced head coach Joan Bonvicini on Wednesday. Australia native KATRINA LINDNER has signed a National Letter of Intent and will join the Wildcats as a freshman for the 2001-02 season.

A 5-7 guard from Adelaide, South Australia, Lindner will bring a wealth of club basketball experience to the UA. She has played on four different club teams and is currently averaging 20 points and six rebounds a game for her South Australia ABA Conference team. She was also a member of the U-20 South Australia State Team that won the Australian National Championship last January.

Lindner, who attends Emmanuel College Prep in Adelaide, is the first Australian ever to sign with the Arizona women's basketball program and is the first foreign player to be brought into Arizona by Bonvicini.

"We're very excited to sign Katrina," said Bonvicini, who just wrapped up her 10th season at the helm of the Arizona program. "She's a great player who has been very well-coached. She has already toured the U.S., so she knows what to expect here. We see her contributing right away for us."

"Katrina is a combination guard who is very quick and plays aggressive defense," said associate head coach and recruiting coordinator Denise Dove Ianello. "Her club experience will be invaluable."

Lindner joins early signees Danielle Adefeso (Los Angeles, Calif./St. Monica HS), Shawntinice Polk (Hanford, Calif./Hanford HS), Robin Roberson (Berkeley, Calif./Berkeley HS) and Dee-Dee Wheeler (Chicago, Ill./Dunbar Aca.) as this year's recruiting class.
